Since adult dogs are not designed to drink milk, these are unnecessary calories devoid of nutrients your dog really needs.
Beware of xylitol
If you do give your dog almond milk, make sure to check the ingredients for xylitol. This additive is toxic to dogs. Just a small amount puts your dog at risk for hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and liver failure. In some cases, even death.
If your dog ingests almond milk with xylitol, here are the toxicity symptoms to look for:
- Weakness
- Lethargy
- Vomiting
- Seizures
Contact your veterinarian if your dog’s condition worsens.
