Vegetables are not necessary to a dog’s diet, but they make great occasional treats. There’s nothing wrong with adding a little green color to your dog’s dish. Peas are a common ingredient in commercial dog food. But what about raw or cooked peas?

Can Dogs Eat Peas?

Yes, dogs can eat peas. This includes green peas, garden peas, snow peas, and sugar snap peas. Feel free to include a few in your dog’s dish on occasion. Peas are rich in fiber and protein. They also contain several beneficial vitamins and minerals. You can feed your dog frozen or fresh peas, but dodge canned peas with their added sodium.

Peas are not recommended for dogs with kidney issues. They contain purines that can further irritate the kidneys.

Dogs that eat too many peas may experience gas or other digestive issues.
