Table of Contents
1. Platinum Golden Retrievers
Platinum Golden Retrievers is a small, family-run kennel outside of Lakeville. The Kauranen family are experienced Golden Retriever breeders in Massachusetts. Because Platinum Golden Retrievers, the first of our golden retriever breeders in Massachusetts, raises their dogs in a family setting, the puppies grow out well-adjusted, happy, and calm. The dogs have plenty of room to run and use their retriever energy on the family’s six wooded acres.
The Kauranen family feeds their goldens a raw, protein-rich diet from the manufacturer Stella & Chewy’s. This diet keeps the dogs beautiful and in optimal shape, as similar raw-food diets are as close as possible to what dogs would eat in the wild.
These breeders check every dog for congenital disabilities to prevent these issues from being passed on to the young puppies. Some of the problems that Platinum Golden Retrievers screens are:
- Genetic hip diseases
- Inherited eye diseases
- Cardiovascular diseases or abnormalities
Additionally, Platinum Golden Retrievers only breeds dogs with the ideal “golden” temperament. At the time of this writing, they are not accepting applications for puppies, as all of their litters have found homes up through the year 2023.
Platinum Golden Retrievers is an A.K.C. H.E.A.R.T. certified breeder and a member of both the A.K.C. and the Golden Retriever Club of America.

5. Northwinds Golden Retrievers
Northwinds Golden Retrievers is actually in New Hampshire in the city of Pelham, but since the town is right next to the Massachusetts border, they still made this list! Gary and Susan Bahrakis run Northwinds Golden Retrievers and have more than 30 years of experience. They’re the most experienced breeders on our list.
Northwinds’ golden retrievers are different from others on this list because they come from English lines rather than American lines. As such, Northwinds’ dogs have blockier heads, and they come in lighter shades of cream and yellow. The breeders check the parents for health issues like hip and elbow conditions.
At the time of this writing, Northwinds Golden Retrievers is building a 2020 waitlist for puppies. They are also accepting applications for future litters. Northwinds Golden Retrievers is A.K.C. certified and O.F.A. certified.
No matter what dog breed you decide to adopt, health, temperament, and breed characteristics are all incredibly important considerations. If your puppy doesn’t have the right personality traits to fit in with your family, it might not be a good match even if it’s the most well-behaved dog in the world.
Fortunately, since the breeders on this list predominantly raise their puppies in family environments, you won’t have to worry about the pups bonding and fitting in with your family. The golden retriever temperament, in particular, is famous for being easy-going, loving, and gentle, even as a young and boisterous puppy.
If you are looking to purchase golden retriever puppies in Massachusetts right away, there are some breeders on this list who are accepting applications. Alternatively, you can wait for a dog from a specific breeder if one of them has stuck out to you.
Since all of the breeders on this list have a good reputation and are AKC-certified, you really can’t go wrong with any of them!
